On May 31, 2022, your Illinois Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Nurse License will expire. You should expect to receive renewal information from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (“IDFPR”) via email only.
You will not receive a nurse license renewal notice through the U.S. Postal Service. You will receive an email from the IDFPR sent to the email address you last provided that will contain instructions for renewal. Please update your email with the IDFPR immediately, and check old email addresses and your spam folder for the nurse license renewal notice. You are required to know when your licenses expire and are responsible for timely renewal.
Effective immediately, the IDFPR requires any licensed professional who is renewing their nurse license to submit the renewal via IDFPR’s website. Once the renewal is successfully processed, licensees will receive an email that may be used as proof of licensure. You will no longer receive a paper license in the mail. It will be available to print from the IDFPR website. Proof of licensure may be also found via IDFPR’s License Lookup.
We strongly recommend for you to visit IDFPR’s online address change webpage to provide a current email address and ensure contact information is up-to-date.
As of January 1, 2020, anyone who holds a professional license issued by the Illinois Department of Financial Professional Regulation is required to complete 1 hour of CE on the topic of sexual harassment prevention training. This new CE requirement does not increase the number of hours required to renew your nursing license. Please contact us if you need help identifying an appropriate course.
After you submit your nurse license renewal application, you may receive a Notice that your license will not be renewed. The IDFPR may be reviewing negative information in connection with your license and your nurse renewal license may be denied. However, this is not the end as you still have options.
