Illinois Medical License Renewal Deadline Extended to August 31, 2023

On July 27, 2023, Cecilia Abundis, Director of the IDFPR Division of Professional Regulation, announced a Variance on behalf of Illinois-licensed physicians, extending the deadline of license renewals from July 31, 2023 to August 31, 2023.

This Variance was granted due to “technological system challenges” that have caused issues for some licensed professionals when attempting to renew their licenses online through the IDFPR system.  

This Variance does not apply to any other statute or rule placed upon those licensed under the Medical Practice Act, including Continuing Medical Education requirements, which should have been completed by the July 31, 2023 deadline.

Additionally, this Variance does not apply to those licensed through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. The Interstate Compact’s renewal process is different than the online system utilized by the IDFPR and thus did not present any challenges to the renewal process.
